Managing ADHD and Covid-19

Raising a child with ADHD isn’t like a normal routine, especially when we are going through the worst years of our lives. Yes, you guessed it correctly. Covid-19 has turned our days apart in a suffocating way. Life is terrible even for people like us, so what makes you think it’ll be easier for the children who are suffering with ADHD. They are already going through various symptoms and now they have to overcome the fear of corona virus.

Well, apart from all that questions in our mind as being parents, we still believe that we will overcome this somehow because there is always a way to make life easier.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopment disorder marked by an ongoing pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development.

Some of the signs and symptoms of ADHD are mentioned below.

· Difficulty in following instructions

· Poor organization skills

· A dislike of tasks that require sustained mental effort

· Misplacing of things

· Easily distracted

At Kazim Trust is to therefore build a community in which children and adults with ADHD and learning difficulties possess the academic, social and emotional skills that would enable them to succeed in all spheres of their lives.

Here are some pointers to help your child overcome fears during the pandemic:

Create a structure:
As a parent your role is so much important because a child with ADHD might not know what’s going on in the world. Make sure you convey the message to him without scaring him. Try to explain with some fable touch, as in a dangerous germs are on the loose and we have to fight with them by always staying safe at our house and follow the safety precaution.

Make strategic ways:
It might be new for a child when you will tell him to sanitize and wash your hands every 15 minutes. Your job is to explain it to him why is this important to us. Try showing an educational or animated video about germs. If he forces you for an outdoor activity, tell him that if you’ll go outside or touch something, the germ will latch onto you.

Cleaning Habits:
Earlier days might be difficult for you. Try to stand in front of the mirror and show your child how to wash your hands for 20 seconds. This technique is called live modeling. You can also show various charts and videos to deliver the message. Also show him how to sanitize fabric and objects at home.

Nurturing the development of a child with ADHD means that you’ll have to plan and modify your ways. Meditation and exercise is the first thing you should begin with. By allowing yourself to work with the above guidelines it’ll make your life easier.

We at Kazim Trust believe how much you care about child, which is why we provide you with the support you and your child deserve. If you want any suggestions from us, feel free to contact us on our website at https://www.kazimadhdtrust.org/
